Holiday Ideas

Is everyone enjoying shopping, dining , decorating, gifting ? Are you looking for new ideas? I was thinking that when it comes to gift , why is it always something  monetary only? Do we really need that extra sweater , jacket, jewelry or all those latest gazettes? If there’s a need , sure. Why not add little learning, experience that is fun ? Let’s see if we can come up with some fun things to gift or do this season.

  • Will start with clean water , breath , space to grow, wholesome food. We all need to gift that to ourselves.
  • Arrange a hike or walk with friends and then go for lunch.
  • Take a painting or art class with friends. There are few hr classes available at craft stores like cake decorating, knitting , painting.
  • Go to yoga class and gift a friend too so you can go together. Just go for 1 time and no need to think abt whole life and panic.
  • Go for a massage .
  • If you are regular gym person, they also have classes. Try something new.
  • If you are not a gym person, go for a month. Most of the ppl can afford for a month.
  • If you have too much clutter in home or mind, do some cleaning. If you need to know how to  clean mind , ask.
  • If you are having a get together at home, then you can hire someone who will come teach a painting , yoga , Ayurveda or some craft. Or you might have a friend who is good at something and is willing to share.
  • Hope you got the idea. Now go , implement.

Ragi (finger millet) Roti

Ragi is rich in calcium and iron and most of the ppl probably know. Question is how many people use it? Most of us are stuck only on wheat even though so many different flours are available now a days everywhere. Why wait for developing wheat allergy? Break the wheat pattern if that’s all you are eating . Some ppl like routine where you don’t need to think what to make. Then keep at least one day a week where you won’t have wheat or rice. When am gonna run out of wheat flour, I don’t buy it and that way am forced to eat other flours until I make a trip to Indian grocery. 

Ragi roti tasted pretty good. Here’s how I made it. You can google for videos , recipes . There are so many. I made it spicy.

  • Heat oil and crack few mustard seeds. Add chopped onion, chili, torn curry leaves, cilantro. Add water , salt and let it boil.
  • Once water is boiling , lower the heat and add Ragi flour. Keep stirring and whole thing will become mass.
  • Cover , switch of the stove and let it sit for 15 mins.
  • To roll, I used parchment paper and sprayed olive oil. Use your palm to make roti.
  • Cook it with little oil like other rotis.
  • You can eat with any curry or chutney and sambhar.

Saffron Chia Milk

Last night while watching master chef India, I got this idea and was excited to try it out. I knew it will taste good and I have brought saffron from Dubai which I have been wanting to try and see if it is good . When I googled , I saw people have already tried this combination.Well, it’s still was new for me. Here’s how I made it.

  • Warm or boil milk. Add few strands of saffron. I also added some crushed cardamom seeds.
  • Once milk cools down or just warm, add Chia seeds. And keep it aside for an hr or some. I just kept it in fridge overnight.
  • Eat for  breakfast.Yum !
  • It tasted really good and saffron I got from Dubai is really good. Seems high quality. Saffron dissolved in a milk quickly and gave milk nice golden color and saffron flavor.
  • If you still haven’t tried Chia seeds , then I have no words. Kick yourself and buy some .:)
  • Indian Tukmariya that’s used in falooda is different from Chia seeds.

Holiday Black Rice

According to Chinese medicine, it’s good to eat black , blue colored food in winter. And it’s winter here now. Well, if it’s not winter at your place, you still can eat black rice. I took it for our yoga group get together and everyone asked me abt it and liked it. 

Found recipe here:

  • I soaked black rice over night and then cooked it first.
  • Heat olive oil, fry chopped garlic until golden brown. Add chopped green onion with white , green part. Add cooked corn. And sauté for few seconds.
  • Add cooked rice, cranberries, cumin powder, black pepper and salt.
  • Mix well, add lime juice and cilantro.
  • Garnish with pumpkin seeds.
  • Since rice is cooked , you are just mixing other ingredients so don’t over cook.
  • It makes a good easy dish to take to holiday potluck and it will become a conversation piece too.
  • Black rice is available at many grocery stores , Asian market or amazon.

Dear Zindagi(Life)

Is this the first time am writing  abt movie here? This blog is abt life and Bollywood movie Dear Zindagi is also abt life and so I had to write. More so when I liked and enjoyed movie very much. We all are students of life anyways whether we like it or not. 

So abt movie, am not doing review abt acting, music etc but movie has nailed some part of life. How we live in fear, past trauma and how it all keep manifesting in life. How we are so judge mental abt everything and everyone , all right and wrong. How things should be or should have been. 

After realising issues, how one seeks for help and overcome fear. Once fears are overcome, how life becomes fuller and one is ready for new experiences and live. 

I believe in sharing good things and so sharing my views on movie. If it clicks to you, go watch movie.
