Oat Khichadi And Being Independent

  • Everyone had a good 4th of July and celebrated independence day? What abt our personal independence? Are you independent?
  • Let’s check. What happens when you don’t get your morning tea, coffee , drink or that healthy shake you got used to? Does your day still go on as usual?
  • Now decide for yourself if you are independent or not. 🙂
  • And yes, it’s never late to be independent. Give up until you are free and then you can reintroduce but now you won’t be dependent.
  • Remember in india, ppl now and then used to give up their fav food for a while. Same concept.
  • Coming back to food, y’day i had nice pongal at indian restaurant and i liked it simple flavour. Pongal is just khichadi but little different seasoning.
  • Well, i made my own version.
  • I cooked mix of mung dal and masoor dal with turmeric and salt first . Forgot to add ginger.
  • Once dal is 3/4 th cooked, add oat. Let it boil.
  • For seasoning, heat ghee or butter. Ghee gives it a very good flavour. Crack cumin seeds, ginger paste,few whole peppercorn and curry leaves.
  • Add seasoning to cooked dal, oat mixture. You can also add some cashews.

  • Garnish with cilantro.
  • Simple sattvic lunch on a hot summer day  !
