- According to Ayurveda, summer is a season of Pitta and in Chinese medicine, summer corresponds to element fire.
- So diet should be pitta pacifying.
- All summer vegetables are high in water content and hence good to beat the heat. Like zucchini, yellow squash, bottle gourd, turai, green beans, okra , cucumber, peppers etc etc.
- Buy them fresh if possible . I don’t mind paying high price to get them fresh.
- Plenty of fruits available in summer. I have seen many ppl making shakes. It’s best to enjoy them by themselves instead of making milk shakes. Just my opinion.
- According to ayurveda, fruit and dairy is not a good combination. Only certain sweet fruits are ok with dairy.
- It’s good to end your lunch with home made buttermilk which is 1 part home made yogurt + 3 or 4 part water. Add salt, cumin powder for flavour.
- Too much cold food makes digetsion week. So Ice creams,all iced drinks cause digestion problems. If you have digestion problem, try to avoid cold things for a while and see if it helps.
- Make colorful meals in summer using all colorful summer vegetables and fruits. Eat less and light.
