Gujarati Thali

  • Gujarati Thali has veggie ,roti ,dal or kadhi, kichadi or rice, papad , little kachumbar(salad) and pickle.
  • It’s based on ayurvedic principle of including all 6 taste.Also it’s eaten as lunch.
  • Now a days it’s not possible  but we should still strive to include all 6 taste in our meal atleast now and then.
  • According to Ayurvda, we should have 50 % solid food, 25 % liquid and keep 25% empty. This thali meets  requirement.
  • It’s been snowing here and  very cold so made this hearty thali to feel warm.
  • It’s fun to have little bit of all taste and variety sometimes.

Thai rice with split pea dal

  • Have you ever tried Thai hom mali jasmin rice? confused? Well, There are lots of kind of jasmine rice in the market but try to look for “Hom mali” on the packet. It’s a good kinda rice. Little expensive but worth it.
  • I have tried few different brands and i liked them all. And yes, I buy them at the asian store.
  • Split green pea dal is a good variation to regular tuvar dal. Easy to cook, tasty and has good amt of fiber.
  • Also added acorn squash to it and no onion or tomatoes.
  • Simple, quick and very filling.
  • Try it out ! If you are stuck on rice and dal at least try new variety of rice and dal.
